Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
