Democrats Unveil Newest Batch of Jeffrey Epstein Photographs as Department of Justice Cut-off Date Approaches
Oversight Panel
The House Oversight Committee has made public a set of roughly 70 photographs from the estate of late found guilty individual convicted of sex crimes Jeffrey Epstein.
This represents the latest in a series of publication from a tranche of over 95,000 photos the panel has secured from Epstein's holdings. It includes pictures of passages from the literary work Lolita scrawled across a woman's body, and obscured photos of female foreign passports.
This release comes hours before the December 19th deadline for the Department of Justice to make public all records related to its probe into Epstein.
"These latest photos pose further questions about exactly what the DOJ has in its holdings," said the ranking member of the panel, Robert Garcia.
What is in the Photographs Disclosed
Some of the photos made public on this week depict Epstein in discussion with professor and activist Noam Chomsky aboard a personal aircraft; Bill Gates positioned beside a individual whose identity is obscured; Steve Bannon positioned at a table across from Epstein, and former Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a dinner event.
Committee
These are the most recent wealthy, prominent men to be photographed in Epstein's estate photographs published by the committee - formerly disclosed photos also show US President Donald Trump and ex-president Bill Clinton, as well as movie director Woody Allen, former US Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and others.
Appearing in the photographs is not evidence of any illegal activity, and several of the pictured individuals have said they were in no way involved in Epstein's unlawful actions.
In a press release issued alongside the photograph publication, Democratic members on the US House Oversight Committee noted the Epstein property holders did not offer context or dates for the pictures.
"Photographs were picked to offer the public with openness into a typical cross-section of the photos received from the property, and to provide perspectives into Epstein's associates and his exceptionally alarming activities," the release reads.
Oversight Panel
The release also features several photos of quotes from the Vladimir Nabokov book Lolita inscribed in ink across various areas of a woman's body, like her torso, feet, pelvis, and back. Lolita recounts the story of a young girl who was groomed by a adult literature professor.
An example of a excerpt from the book written across a woman's upper body reads, "Lolita: the tip of the tongue making a journey of three steps down the mouth to alight, at three, on the teeth".
The release also contains a number of photos of women's identification and official papers from nations globally, such as Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Committee
The majority of the data on the IDs, like identities and DOBs, is obscured but the House Oversight Committee stated in a announcement that the travel documents are associated with "individuals whom Jeffrey Epstein and his conspirators were involved with".
A further photograph features Epstein seated at a table in close proximity flanked by three women whose identities have been censored - one individual has her hand on Epstein's upper body under his shirt, and another is leaning to examine a close-by computer. Epstein seems to be aiding the third fasten a wristband.
Committee
A further photo released is a capture of SMS messages from an unidentified person who claims they have been supplied "a number of girls" and are asking for "$$1,000 per female".
Photo Publication Occurs Prior to DOJ Due Date
The body has many thousands of images in its custody from the Epstein property, which are "both explicit and mundane," its statement on this week noted.
The oversight panel first subpoenaed the property of Epstein, who passed away in a New York prison in 2019 while pending legal proceedings on accusations of sex trafficking, in August.
The photographs and records the Epstein estate's representatives provided to the committee are different than what is largely called "the Epstein documents". Those files are records under the DOJ's control associated with its separate investigation into Epstein.
In accordance with the recently passed law, which President Trump made law recently, the DOJ has until the date of 19 December to publish its documents. The full nature of the contents included in the DOJ's documents is unclear, and it's likely that a significant portion of the information will be significantly obscured, similar to the committee's releases
