Israelis have come together throughout the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-led assault on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are seen as reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still took place throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A senior representative involved in the talks indicated that an evening round of negotiations began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the morning session concluded without tangible results, because of differences over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not restart combat after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "tough and have not yet deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are working hard to reduce the gaps between the both parties.

Critical Points in Negotiations

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The swap of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future governance of the region

Citizen Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose family member survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were murdered and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place appears as home anymore and until every captive return no one will be secure."

"After we see everybody home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can begin to rebuild," she added.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to express their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel says nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Protester a participant stated: "We must do any agreement needed for the hostages to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that about the majority of Israelis prefer the conflict to conclude in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the location of the gathering, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the urban center, bombardments were documented in the early hours of that day in the west side neighborhood, sector and Nasr districts and in the eastern district of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening comes, the fear comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"We are fearful of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my smallest child who puts his face on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Health Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had taken in the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of the city reported additional victims had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for assistance to the south region, medical staff stated.

Gaza's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
