Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
