The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
