The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
