The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular series reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
On the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”
“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.
The Central Mystery: Has the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?
Given that the writers are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.
“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.
“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
