The Life Cycle of a Cult is often defined by clear stages.

1. The Grand Vision

A charismatic leader or figureheads present a revolutionary approach that promises a panacea for disconnected individuals.

And so it goes. Plans are in motion to challenge the establishment overseas. Tensions are rising. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. One individual, exposed, shivering, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT displayed prominently as a statement, has stumbled into view and is being led away under a blanket for a temporary assignment in county cricket.

Remember the start, when everything was fresh? The initial phase, of uninhibited aggression.

2. Love-Bombing

Team architects promise a reboot, a brighter tomorrow, love, salvation together united in belief in the big idea.

How did it feel back then? Just men on a balcony feeling good. Body art. Muscles. Focus. Elite male wellness energy. Admittedly, The squad often say Bazball doesn’t actually exist, amusingly because if it doesn’t exist, what did we see?

Yet it’s clear its essence. It’s Harry Brook attempting a move so depraved it has to be pixelated. It’s the excitement of the captain at his peak, an expression conveying: focused titan, rugged appearance, natural look, so authentically Modern Savage you wouldn’t be surprised to notice and find him positioned in the field stripped to the waist holding a fish.

3. A New Life

Building period. Cohesion maintained via memorization of mantras. These beliefs may seem irrational as a loyalty check.

Meanwhile, we have the wider backdrop of the host’s complex ingrained annoyance at these weirdly passive-aggressive buccaneers, stating, your cherished traditions and have honed as one way of separating yourself from the opposition, it’s just a joke after all.

Here lies the truth. It’s all cults. The style was a trend as the game has its own culture. In fact, the sport in England is closed, a group, an elite gathering, a closed world with centuries of tradition and mystery defining it. It has long been where influence is guarded. It’s the colonial game of England, the pioneering brand. And notably, the nation has its own culture, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a place that literally still has a king.

In trying to escape from it, to foster positivity, they are mirroring their past, building another enclosure, a closed circle, but now with a modern squad and a mentor promoting authenticity as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.

Focus on the moment. Confront risks. However much you change, things stay similar.
